THOUGHT FOR A DAY

This is from John Authers' newsletter today:

The secret of minimizing the damage and suffering (from Coronavirus) seems to lie in the boring virtues of discipline and consistency, rather than the big and impassioned debates over liberty that are currently dividing countries with the more serious problems.

Perhaps the biggest contradiction of capitalist society today is the mistaking of social discipline with lack of freedom and - much worse still - of transgression and deviance with freedom.  More on this reflection soon.
