Commentary on Political Economy

Sunday 17 October 2021

Professor Partha Dasgupta (environmental economics, Cambridge) was very supportive to me when Bob Rowthorn (now Professor Emeritus) freaked out at my demolition of Keynes's bizarre economic...er..."theory" (note: not his practical prescriptions; his slapdash parody of an economic theory in the hopelessly mistitled "The General Theory").

""When I entered university life [in the early 1970s] it never crossed my mind that certain subjects were off limits," Cambridge economics professor Partha Dasgupta told the Sunday Times. “There is an attempt in British universities today to regulate thought, and not just speaking and writing. And to think that we criticize authoritarian regimes elsewhere for having suppressed thought, ”he adds."

Quoted in Le Figaro today.
