Dithering Gianni Infantino will be remembered as an enabler and a coward
The Fifa president dragging his feet over the expulsion of Russia from World Cup is latest stain on governing body that has reached rock bottom

The poodle has learnt to bark. Well done, Fifa. But where have you been? The enormity of Vladimir Putin’s behaviour is such that even Fifa, a house of horrors when it comes to integrity and intelligence, has said enough. Take that, Moscow. Being blackballed by Fifa’s pusillanimous president, Gianni Infantino, is as low as it goes.
It still took Infantino four days to reach a decision that should have taken four seconds. While Ukraine’s sovereign soil cleaved under the tracks of Putin’s tanks, Infantino dithered shamefully before finally suspending Russia from football, including the World Cup play-offs. It is a delay steeped in blood.
