democracy or the rule of law. They don’t build civil society in their own countries, and they don’t respect it in others. “In effect,” Freedom House found in its 2021 report, “states can now threaten, kidnap or murder exiles with little fear of punishment.”
The United States cannot and should not tolerate the long arm of these dictators wreaking havoc on our soil.
