Ukraine is close to securing a major victory in the northwest suburbs of Kyiv after its troops strengthened their position around the invading Russian forces.
The MoD said there was now a “realistic possibility” that Ukrainian forces would encircle the towns of Bucha and Irpin, which have been partially occupied by Russian forces since the early days of the war.
Ukrainian officials accused the retreating Russian forces of resorting to banned white phosphorus munitions and in intercepted calls, released by the Ukrainians, Russian troops reported “heavy losses” to their superiors.
